Ando Architecture
In recent years, the “Setouchi International Art Festival” has garnered worldwide attention. Among the works by Tadao Ando located on Naoshima—the festival’s central venue—are the “Mediterranean Art Museum,” “Benesse House,” and “AND MUSEUM.” “Setouchi Retreat Aonagi” stands alongside these. It is one of the iconic examples of “Ando architecture” in the Setouchi region. The building, which had previously been open to the public only as part of an art museum, was renovated and transformed into a small luxury hotel overlooking the Seto Inland Sea.
