KAMIKOCHI Imperial Hotel
Introduction
ConceptConcept
A hotel brimming with class and elegance
Kamikochi, an authentic mountain resort often referred to as “the land where the gods descend,” is nestled within the majestic Hotaka Mountain Range at an elevation of approximately 1,500 meters. It captivates visitors with the charms of each season: spring, with its beautiful, vibrant new greenery; summer, with the cool, clear waters of the Azusa River; early fall, when the trees in the forest turn golden; and late fall, when the first snow begins to fall.Surrounded by a tranquility you won’t find in the city, beautiful nature unique to this area, and the majestic scenery of the Japanese Alps, you can spend a relaxing time here.
HistoryHistory
The History of Red Roofs
We have continued to preserve the log cabin-style exterior, with its red roof—a symbol that harkens back to the building’s original appearance when it first opened in 1933.Even when the building was completely rebuilt in 1977—converting it from a wooden structure to reinforced concrete—we retained the wooden aesthetic in both the interior and exterior finishes, restoring it to look almost exactly as it did before the renovation. In addition, we have implemented maintenance measures—such as designs that allow for the replacement of wooden components as they age—and we continue to maintain and manage the property even during the approximately six-month winter closure. We will continue to preserve this hotel architecture, which harmonizes with nature, so that it may remain a part of the Kamikochi landscape for years to come.
Natural WaterWater
The ultimate hospitality comes from natural spring water sourced from the foothills of Mt. Rokuhyaku
We highly recommend you try the natural spring water—a gift from the mountains. Mount Rokuhyaku, located on the southern side of Kamikochi at an elevation of 2,470 meters, is covered with white spruce and Japanese white spruce. Rainfall there is gradually filtered and collects at the spring as crystal-clear groundwater. This water source becomes the 300-meter-long Shimizu River, which joins the Azusa River upstream of Kappa Bridge. At the Kamikochi Imperial Hotel, water is drawn from the source using a siphon system—a method that requires no motors or electricity whatsoever—allowing guests to enjoy this renowned, cold spring water, maintained at around 8°C, at any time."
