Tottori Mountain Worship - Luxury Private Jet Tour
This trip takes you across Tottori Prefecture to visit Mt. Mitokuyama and Mt. Daisen, two of Tottori's proudest Japanese Heritage sites.
Mt. Mitoku and Mt. Daisen have been revered and respected as objects of mountain worship since ancient times.
This tour will climb Mt. Mitokuyama and Mt. Daisen, capture the mountains in three dimensions from a private jet, and take a hot spring bath to help you regenerate your body and mind.
Mt. Mitoku and Mt. Daisen are precious places where you can still experience the fusion of Shinto, Japan's original religion, and Buddhism, which was introduced from China (Shin Buddhist syncretism). In this tour, you will learn about and experience the history of each temple and its belief in the eight million gods.
Mount Mitoku
Mt. Mitoku (899.7 m above sea level) is a sacred place of mountain worship and a mountain with a rich history where many monks have practiced asceticism since ancient times. Sanbutsuji Temple, located at the foot of the mountain, was built in 706 as a hall for ascetic practitioners. At the innermost part of the temple is the “Nageiredo,” said to be “the most dangerous national treasure in Japan.” Visitors can experience reincarnation by climbing the steep trail that takes advantage of the natural terrain to reach the hall. Some of the buildings in Sanbutsutsuji, including Nageiredo, have yet to be discovered how they were built or manufactured, making the temple a place where visitors can feel the history and mystery of more than 1,300 years.
Mount Daisen
Daisen is the oldest sacred mountain in history, whose name is mentioned in “Izumo no Kuni Fudoki”. Since Mt. Daisen has also been a mountain that has been worshipped by 8 million gods since ancient times, nature has been left untouched, resulting in one of the largest beech forests in western Japan, and many indigenous creatures named after the mountain live and grow in the area.

Experience
Mt. Mitoku Climbing
Sacred place of Shugendo
From the main hall of Sanbutsu-ji Temple at the foot of Mt. Mitoku, visitors climb a steep mountain trail (about 3 hours round trip) with some sections requiring the use of chains along the way.
This is a path of ascetic training in which participants sharpen their senses (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and will = the “six roots”) and risk their lives to reach the national treasure, Dejaido, which is located in the middle of the mountain.Expert guides will assist you on the climb and provide explanations about the various cultural assets along the way.
The trail is steep, so there are some rules to follow, such as wearing non-slip shoes. You can also purchase waraji (straw sandals) for climbing at the reception desk at the trailhead.
Mt. Daisen Trekking
The highest peak in the Chugoku region, also known as “Hoki Fuji
Trekking tour (about 3 hours) to experience with a guide the natural charm of Daisen, a national park, and the history of Daisenji Temple, which has developed from the belief in nature.
On the way, you will also experience Zen meditation at the Amida Hall, a nationally designated important cultural property.
Unlike Mt. Mitoku, the trekking route is gentle, so there are no restrictions on footwear.
Ushinoto Pottery Tour
Ushinoto-yaki is a private kiln that has been in existence since the Tempo era (1868-1912). In the early Showa period (1926-1989), under the tutelage of Yoshida Shoin, the founder of Tottori folk art, Ushinoto began to create boldly contrasting two-color plates that remain highly popular to this day. The same old techniques, including the use of homemade high-purity clay refined from the coarse clay near the studio, support the robust quality of his works. Although used for daily use, the unique deep coloring of the dishes has a taste that reminds us of the traditions that have been preserved. The earthen floor of the studio, where Takao Kobayashi, the sixth generation owner, says, “Humidity is the key,” is lined with works of Tottori Mingei origin made by Hideharu Kobayashi and Yoshida Syoin.
