Luxury Hotel in a Traditional Japanese House

A massive traditional Japanese house built during the Edo period has been renovated into a hotel. It has been reborn in a modern style while embodying the essence of Kiso’s traditional culture. Its minimalist aesthetic, inspired by a “Zen temple,” creates a space that is truly one-of-a-kind in the world.Glossy floors polished with black lacquer; walls resembling ink wash paintings, created by mordanting washi paper with iron and copper; and one-of-a-kind furniture crafted in collaboration with local artisans and artists.Designer chairs carved from chestnut wood; a bath lavishly crafted from Kiso cypress—please enjoy the one-of-a-kind Zenagi experience.

After leaving Japan at the age of 22 to move to France, he spent about 10 years studying cutting-edge cuisine at three restaurants—“Geranium” (Denmark),“Mugaritz” (Spain), and “Azurmendi” (Spain)—all named to “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants,” often referred to as the Oscars of the culinary world—for about 10 years, where he studied cutting-edge cuisine before returning to Japan. In September 2023, he assumed the position of Executive Chef at Zenagi.
