This shrine is one of the three Kumano Sanzan (three shrines of Kumano area), and was formerly a god-like sanctuary far into the remote area of Kumano. The shrine building itself is made using white wood and has a cypress bark roof, and the grounds are filled with a particularly calm atmosphere even among the Kumano Sanzan.
